Sport is a distinctive realm in mass culture and its collective imagination: an agora and a pantheon. It is an area where collective hopes and emotions are projected, governed by its own rules as well as those imposed by the media. Zuzanna Janin enters this arena in a fight with Przemyslaw Saleta, the heavyweight boxing champion and (naturally) media idol. Saleta is both a real person and a media image. “Zuzanna takes on the role of a media heroine. Xena, the Warrior Princess – Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, Lara Croft, that armed-to-the-teeth spitfire – Trinity, the Matrix mistress of martial arts – Motoko, the cybernetic secret agent – these and other exponents of girl power have accustomed us to the notion that pop culture grrls can fight. Weight and height have no meaning – everyone is a warrior here.”
