On August 14th, 1980, an unknown electrician named Lech Wałęsa jumped over the wall of the Lenin Shipyard in Gdańsk and set off a series of events that led to the dismantling of the Berlin Wall and the downfall of communism in East-Central Europe. Don’t Wear Yourself Out is a set of exercises that Jacek Niegoda performed on the 24th anniversary of that memorable leap, on the exact site of Wałęsa’s jump (which is now part of the exhibition The Road to Freedom). Niegoda’s exercises are leisure-type calisthenics – amateur fitness. They are aimed at everyone who is disappointed and dissatisfied with the current situation. “Don’t Wear Youself Out lets everybody try one more time – to do a slow but very thorough historical and mental replay.” (Jacek Niegoda)
