Platos Schatten (Plato’s Shadow, 1995) is a multimedia installation developed and produced by ZKM Medienmuseum for the MultiMediale 4 Festival. The work, later re—named to Floating Identities, is a part of the ZKM collection. It consists of ten metal sculpures in form of mannequins freezed in expressive movements, each of them holding a monitor deprived of its outer shell. The monitors display a collection of video images on history of technological advancement, tension between nature and technology, limitations and fragility of human body. The outer form of the installation refers to Eadweard Muybridge’s chronophotographic images, as well as the rythmically structured composition of its video components.
