His famous boots, the only ones he uses when going out of his home since over 40 years, were bought on April, 16th 1969. Since then, they participate in the documented process of continous modifications: they undergo damages and recoveries, just as a living organism keeps renewing its cells every once in a while. In this sense, the boots symbolically stand for the reincarnation, but also reveal the notion of art as a process and a language of communication, being able to change an ordinary object into a unique piece of art. An object of a similar status are his jeans repaired all over again, as well as the artists himself — the traces of his bodily appearance and the passing of time — beard and hair — carefully collected over the years and declared artifacts by the will of the artist.
